Green to the Xtreme!

Each year through their successful program, “X Games Environmentality,” the ESPN extreme Games strives to be a positive influence on competitors, vendors, and the fans themselves, making an impact through green-friendly innovation. This year was no different.

Combine alternative design, cool concepts, branding, dedication to eco-conscious recycling, and you've got the 2009 ESPN X Games as created by Los Angeles Party Designs Event Producer and designer, Katie Thompson. The decor featured reusable faux hedges, all natural burlap linen on the tables, and succulent plant-inspired centerpieces that would last through the four-day event. LAPD upped the ante at The Home Depot Center Special Guest Tent with their out-of-the-box eco-conscious Gen X and Y funky art pieces. Utilizing a daily wardrobe staple, red, black and white socks were fashioned into an 8' x 8' “sock wall” duplicating the X Games logo! LAPD's pièce de résistance was a unique, seven-tiered chandelier constructed in the LAPD shop using recyclable cans and bottles. The chandelier was a fantastic conversation piece for attendees and families on how to reuse, recycle, and be artistic with non-traditional materials.

Following the conclusion of the X Games, the “sock wall” was disassembled and the socks were donated to the Los Angeles Mission's “Summer of Hope” program aiding the homeless on Skid Row in downtown Los Angeles. Green to the Xtreme!
